Dev Saran (Shah Rukh Khan) , a New York based foot-ball player, meets with 'Diva' executive Riya (Preity Zinta), both fall in love and get married. A year later Riya gives birth to a son, Arjun. Dev is all set to sign a contract for $5 million to play professional football, but meets with an accident, fractures his leg, and gets disqualified. Riya takes it upon herself to look after this family, leaving Dev embittered. Then there are the Talwars, consisting of widower and swinger dad, Samarjit (Amitabh Bachchan) and his son, Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan). Samarjit arranges the marriage of Rishi with Maya (Rani Mukherji), an orphan he has been looking after. This marriage does not result in any off-spring. Both Dev-Riya, and Maya-Rishi marriages have their ups and downs, but they do patch-up. The Sarans and the Talwars meet, especially Dev's mom, Kamaljit (Kirron Kher), and Samarjit, and everyone seems to be getting along well.
